Dick is author of the world’s best selling career book, What Color Is Your Parachute?, which he personally updates each and every year. He has been a leader in the career development field for more than thirty-five years.

Dick created the field of life planning in 1978, with publication of his book The Three Boxes of Life. He has authored or coauthored ten books related to careers and life-work planning, and has spoken to all the major career conferences on many occasions. Dick and his work have appeared countless times in most national print publications.

Dick was trained in chemical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, holds a bachelor’s degree cum laude in physics from Harvard University, and a master’s in sacred theology from General Theological (Episcopal) Seminary in New York City. He is creator of the Well-Being Model, which integrates research from psychology, economics, medicine, and other fields. It’s been used for employee education programs for all federal government agencies, AARP, FORTUNE “100 Best Companies to Work For” employers and other organizations.

John’s work has appeared in The USA Today, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Business Week and others. He’s spoken to a wide range of national conferences, including the Financial Planning Association, Society for Human Resource Management, International Career Development Conference and others.
